This post is part of our record of fun things to do along the way. We are hoping that the information in these short posts, will help you in planning awesome adventures of your own… and help us in remembering and recording some of the things we’ve done while on the road
This trail starts at Meyers Beach, in the shoreline section of the Apostle Islands National Seashore
This six mile trail takes you through deep woods forests and along the shore of Lake Superior. You pass rugged cliffs and sea caves, as you walk along the beautiful and rugged coast. There is little elevation gain, and it is not a difficult or strenuous trail. But the out and back is a total of 12 miles.
On a Wednesday in July, the first two miles of the trail were pretty crowded with many family groups and pets. But after the first section, ending at “the crevasse” a series of fissures in the rock that afford glimpses of Lake Superior below, it thinned out.
Three miles in, we were all alone on a lovely wild coast, observing eagles and the everchanging face of Lake Superior. The refreshing wind kept the biting flies and mosquitos mostly away. If you are looking for a unique, not-too strenuous or remote hike, this is a beauty.
There is a fee to park at this trailhead, as it is part of the National Park System.
