Thinking about living the nomadic lifestyle? Looking for information, inspiration or connection?
Back when we were still living in our house we were inspired (and informed) by the experiences of others. In building this website, we hope to “pay it forward” and share our own real-life van-life experience. (The interwebs are great for that sort of thing.)
Below are links to some of the folks out there who’ve inspired us.
The Adventure Closet
We haven’t actually met Liz and Charlie of The Adventure Closet (yet), but we have no doubt that we’d get along great. These fellow rockhounds spent a couple of years traveling and living on the road in their minivan, Opal. They are currently exploring in Asia. Their budget friendly, low-key adventures are a real inspiration.
Hippie Vanners
Fellow New Englanders, Darren and Karen, and adorable dog Beefy Betty, are a van-life couple who travel in a very cool 1987 Ford Econoline looking for community, fun, and new experiences. Check out their instagram account for a day to day account of their experiences on the road. We hope to meet up with them sometime.
Make Like an Apeman
Duwan and Greg are long time nomads. Their blog shares the ups and downs of the many years they’ve spent adventuring by sailboat, van, and backpack. They also share their experience working as pet sitters and learning Spanish. Their monthly travel expense reports were super helpful to us when we started planning for our life on the road.
Old with Wandering
Holly and Joe are a cool nomadic couple who are not afraid to change up their travel style. They have lived in a skoolie, a van and a travel trailer in the time they’ve been on the road. They meet interesting people wherever they go, something we aspire to. Holly is an artist and Joe is a beautiful writer, which makes their blog unique and personal.
One Advanture at a Time
Long before we hit the road, Dave, Carrie and their dog Roodle inspired us with their low-key informative youtube videos sharing their experiences living full time on the road. Their channel has great information about dispersed campsites, travel to remote places and van living, in general. We met them in person at The Gila Box National Riparian Conservation Area in Arizona last year, and they are just as kind and unassuming in person as they are online.
Our Time To RV
We met Chris while camping in the Black Hills Rockhound Area in Arizona. Though they had a 10 year age gap, Milo and Chris’ adorable dog, Teddy, hit it off right away. Chris travels seasonally in a truck camper, and his blog (and new YouTube channel) share detailed information, both technical and personal, about living life on the road.
Sharing My Van Life
We almost met Catherine of Sharing My Van Life in the Valley of the Gods. In fact, we literally crossed paths… but we were all concentrating on the steep bumpy road and didn’t realize we had missed an opportunity until later. Catherine’s blog and instagram account chronicles her nomadic lifestyle in the US and Canada. It’s full of good information about living the van life, both as a stealth camper and in remote spots in the west.
Join our list!
There are so many wonderful nomadic folks out there. No doubt, we have omitted a great many of them… Partly because we are a little bit scattered in our social media consumption and partly because we weren’t sure that everybody we’ve met would want this kind of mention.
Anyway, please let us know if we accidentally omitted you… or are missing out on a great van-life resource.
