If you live in New England, you know that Spring is the time for zip and zest. There are so many milestones: the first warm breeze, the day you drop your jacket, the day little fiddlehead fists emerge from damp earth. Even the birds sound different in the spring. Their songs shift and extend as they, too delight in this change.
After the 20-some years, Dan and I have spent teaching and parenting, Spring quickens our work cycle. It is the time to solidify summer plans: What family adventure can we manage given the constraints of time and money?
This year is a little different. There are still hikes to plan, a few definite family meetups, but the kids are off on their own adventures and our world is stretched a little wider.
But we do have a long list of “to do’s”: Giving away or selling most of our stuff, arranging for our house to be rented. We also have to plan for our college-age kids’ needs and the safety of our aging dogs, arrange time to see family far and near.
Also, I have to figure out a way to earn some money while on the road (super important given our budget) and we have to upgrade our wifi and practice finding the bars Dan needs to work on the road.
Heck– we have to finish building out the van!
